What is man-with-a-van rubbish removal?
It's a rubbish collection where the crew does the lifting. Instead of hiring a skip and filling it yourself, a van turns up with two people who go into the house, loft, garage or garden, carry everything out and load it. Nothing sits on the road, so there's no skip permit to arrange, and the waste leaves with the van rather than staying on your drive.
The difference between a proper service and a bloke with a van is the registration. A business that carries other people's waste must be registered as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency. LV81 Removals is registered as CBDU486387, and every load goes to a licensed transfer station.
How does a man-and-van rubbish collection work, step by step?
- Send a photo or a short video of the rubbish on WhatsApp, or call 07934 301825. Tell us where it is — upstairs, in the loft, at the back of the garden.
- We reply with a fixed price and a time slot. Same-day slots are usually available if you book before midday.
- Two of us arrive, check the job matches the photo, and start carrying out. You don't need to move anything to the kerb.
- We load the van. If the job matches what was quoted, the price stays as quoted.
- The waste goes to a licensed transfer station for sorting, and we email you a waste transfer note.
Got a pile that needs to go? Send a photo and we'll come back with a fixed price and a slot.
Book rubbish removal in BirminghamWhy does a photo quote work better than a guess?
Rubbish is priced by how much van space it takes up and what type of waste it is. A photo shows us both. 'A few bags and an old chair' can mean a small load or half a van, and a photo settles that before anyone drives out.
- Stand back so the whole pile is in one shot, and add a second photo of anything bulky.
- Mention stairs, narrow hallways or a long carry from the back garden, so we know how much carrying is involved.
- Say if anything is heavy, like rubble or soil, because heavy waste is quoted differently from bulky household rubbish.
- Point out anything you're not sure we can take, so it's sorted before the day.
What can a man and van take away?
Most things from a normal home or small business: bagged household waste, furniture, sofas, mattresses, white goods, garden waste, garage and shed clear-outs, small amounts of builders waste and office clear-outs.
Hazardous materials such as asbestos and chemicals. If you think something might be hazardous, send a photo first and we'll tell you honestly whether we can take it.
How much does man-with-a-van rubbish removal cost?
With LV81, rubbish removal starts from £25, and you get a fixed price before we arrive rather than an hourly rate.
Full prices by load size and waste type are in our rubbish removal cost guide for Birmingham, linked below. If you're deciding between a skip and a van, the skip hire vs man and van guide compares the two.
What paperwork should you get after the collection?
A waste transfer note. It describes the waste and records who handed it over and who took it, so it's your proof that it went to a registered carrier. We email one on every job.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, householders have a legal 'duty of care' to make sure their waste is passed to an authorised person. If a rogue trader fly-tips your rubbish, you can be fined even though you paid them — so it is worth checking the licence of anyone collecting your waste.
