Why are Birmingham bin collections disrupted?

- Rinse recyclables before storing — dry cardboard and clean plastic don't attract pests.
- Do not compact waste with your feet — it can burst bags and creates a hazard for the crew.
What should I NOT do?
Do not leave loose bags beside your bin, on the verge or anywhere on the pavement. In law, waste left outside a container on public land — even next to your own wheelie bin — can be treated as fly-tipping. How do I report a missed collection?
Birmingham City Council has an online form for reporting a missed household or recycling collection, usually with a two-working-day reporting window from the scheduled collection date. Report as soon as you notice — if you're outside the window, the council typically won't return until the next scheduled visit.
When is a private collection worth it?
For one skipped week, storing the extras inside a shed until the next collection is fine. But if you have several weeks of backlog, a household with children in nappies, food business waste piling up, or any health/pest concern, a private licensed collection is often the right call. LV81's minimum load is £25 for a few bags and up to £90 for a small van's worth — usually cheaper and safer than living with a growing pile.
